Eind 1999 heb ik House of Tattoos geopend.

In 1984,na vrijwel mijn hele leven te hebben getekend, (op school vaak helemaal achterin de klas, zat ik vellen papier vol te kladden met stripfiguren) leek het mijn leuk om te leren tatoeëren - Ik had inmiddels zelf een paar tattoos.
Na een aantal tatoeages thuis te hebben gezet op vrienden, kon ik bij Montana Tattoo onder de supervisie van Hans van den Berg mijn techniek verbeteren.
Daarna heb ik een aantal jaren in mijn thuisstudio gewerkt. Ik deed alleen maatwerk "custom" tattoos: voor elk klant iets uniek
Maar als je alleen werkt is het moeilijk om echt te groeien.

Toen ik weer besloot om in een winkel te werken (Amsterdam Tattooing), besefte ik pas hoe belangrijk het contact met andere tatoeëerders is. Je stimuleert elkaar, je leert van elkaar, je verbeterd je techniek.
En de levendigheid van een streetshop heeft ook wat.
Na 5,5 jaar heel erg fijn te hebben gewerkt bij Eddy Wertwijn (eigenaar van Tattoo Peter) besloot ik om de gok te nemen en mijn eigen winkel te openen.
Bij Eddy had ik gewerkt met echte zeer getalenteerd tatoeëerders met een heel goed gevoel voor humor (heel belangrijk!!!).

Ik ben House of Tattoos alleen begonnen, na een jaar kwam Joris hier werken daarna Henkie en nu hebben Mauritz, Emilia, Dave, Leticia en Monica ons team versterkt.

Ons missie (tegenwoordig hoort elk bedrijf een "missie" te hebben): Voor jou de beste tattoo ontwerpen op die de meest steriele manier zetten. Dat allemaal in een -voor zover mogelijk- ontspannen sfeer.

 Wat ik leuk vind om te doen:

Wat ik nu vooral wil doen zijn tattoos met schaduw, kleur, 3D (niet realistisch), cartoon, onderwerpen met veel humor, komische aliens, monsters met 6 ogen, Dungeons and Dragons -achtige draken, monsters, monsters, heb ik monsters al gezegd? Rare voorwerpen, eten, bizarre dingen, tentakels, levende sokken, wormen, hoeden, onderbroeken, ruimteschepen en sardines in blik.

Maar allemaal wel zelf ontworpen, ik maak geen reprodukties.

 Hi, my name is Sjap.I opened House of Tattoos towards the end of 1999

In 1984 after having been drawing for most of my life, I felt the need to learn how to tattoo (I had a few tattoos already).

After having tattooed a few friends at my home, I had the opportunity to tattoo at Montana Tattoo under the supervision of Hans van den Berg, where I could refine my skills.

Thereafter I worked at home for a few years, doing only custom work: for each customer a new design.

One of the problems of working at home is that it's very difficult to progress.

I decided to work in a streetshop again (Amsterdam Tattooing) and realized how important it is to be in contact with other tattooers. We inspire each other,(and learn faster!).

After having worked five and a half years at Tattoo Peter with Eddy Wertwijn and a whole group of very talented tattooers with a great sense of humor (this is also very important), I took the gamble and opened my own studio.

I began alone, after a year Joris came to help then Henkie and now, with Mauritz, Emilia, Dave, Leticia and Monica we've got a full house (of tattoos).

Our mission (it seems nowadays that each business needs a mission): Designing the best tattoo for you and applying it in the most sterile way possible, in a relaxed, & friendly atmosphere.

 What I like to do:

What I really want to do are tattoos with shadows, color, 3D (but not "realistic"), cartoons, funnny (funny haha en funny weird) subjects, funny aliens, monsters with 6 or more eyes, Dungeons and Dragons style dragons, monsters, monsters, monsters, did I mention monsters? Food, weird stuff, objects, tables , chairs, tentacles, Steampunk, living socks, worms, hats and underwear (used or not), spaceships and sardines in a can.

But, everything of my own design, no reproductions.
